Albert Friedt went home and was received into the loving arms of his Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013. He was born Sept. 20, 1926 in Mott, North Dakota to Tillie & Anton Friedt and grew up on the farm in Mott, North Dakota. He married Sarah Schaible on October 28th, 1947. He farmed until he moved his family to Missoula, Montana in 1956. Albert was employed at the White Pine Sash Company until 1963, and then moved to Kalispell, Montana, where he worked for the Equity Supply and Flathead County until his retirement in 1991.
He was a very hard worker and he instilled this quality in his children. Sometimes he worked three jobs at a time to provide for his family. Life on the farm was always in his heart, and for years he had a milk cow, and raised some cattle, pigs, and a large garden. But he always took time to help his neighbors and to enjoy himself too. His favorite hobby was collecting and restoring antique farm equipment. On the walls of his "man cave" shop were over 50 all unique tractor seats that he sanded and repainted. He completely rebuilt and refurbished many antique tractors over the years. His extensive (over 150) antique cookie jar collection was known throughout the valley, and people were always stopping by to see all of his beautifully restored treasures. Albert was a member of the LaSalle Grange and the Eagles FOE #234. He loved to dance, and for many years he "burned up the floor" at the Eagles with his dancing skills. His specialty was the polka and he was always in demand as a dancing partner. When he could no longer dance, he still continued as long as he could to go and listen to his wife, Ina, play the accordion in the band. In these latter years, Ina was his "angel nurse" at home and took excellent care of dad until he went to Edgewood Vista Nursing home this summer.
Albert was preceded in death by his sons, David in 1976, Raymond in 2010, and his wife, Sarah in 1978. He married Ina Tilton in 1979 and is survived by her at the family home in Kalispell. He is also survived by his daughter, Joanne Roberts and husband, Tim of Kalispell, granddaughter, Cammie and husband, David Kern, great-grandson, Michael of Bozeman, Mt., and grandson, Michael Wemple of Kalispell, and grandsons, James and Jacob Campbell, and great-grandson Noah, all of Colorado; stepchildren, Tom and Deana Hewitt of Custer, Montana, Mick and Nancy Murphy, Edward and Lourell Tilton, Ritchie and Leona Tilton, all of Kalispell, 7 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren. His brothers, Willie Friedt and wife Luella, of Dickinson, N. D., Darrel Friedt of Lakewood, Washington, and Henry Friedt, and wife Bertha, of Mesa, Arizona.
A viewing will be at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m on Monday, Oct. 14th. Albert was a member of St. Matthew's Church and a memorial service will be held there on Tuesday, Oct. 15th at noon. Burial will follow at Conrad Memorial Cemetery. All friends and family are invited to come back to a memorial luncheon in the lower level of St. Matthews Church following the burial service.
