Barbara Jean Johnson, 75, took her last breath on Aug. 3, 2020, at her home in Kalispell with her daughter Athena and grandson Derek by her side.
Barbara was born on Aug. 22, 1944, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to John Owen and Leola Houston (Lyman) Poteet. Barbara attended and graduated from Jasper High school in Jasper, Missouri, in 1962. She then went on to attend Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, and received her associate’s degree.
Barbara worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Air Force for 27 years when she retired. In March 1975 she married Carl Johnson and he passed away, bless his soul, on Nov. 10, 2007. Barbara was active in her Christian church. She loved to garden, crochet, knit and being with her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love of music included listening to Elvis, the Oak Ridge Boys and Garth Brooks; but most of all she was an avid Seahawks fan. She would watch them and cheer them on (quite vocally) each and every time.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Carl Johnson; parents, John O. Poteet Sr. Leola Nicholas and stepfather Charles Nicholas; brother, Ken W. Poteet Sr. and his wife Camilla Poteet; and nephew, John O. Poteet III.
She is survived by her daughters, Athena Ellis and Alicia Richardson; grandchildren, Staff Sgt. Benjamin and wife Elisa Garcia, Derek Riley, Michelle Johnson, John Richardson, Carl Richardson, Shinia Richardson and Angelina Richardson; great-grandchildren, Alayana Garcia, Tayden Garcia and Nellina Garcia; brother, John O. Poteet Jr.; niece Jennifer Poteet, nephew Ken W. Poteet Jr. and their children.
Barbara was an amazing woman with a beautiful heart. She never would accept that she could not do something; she knew in her heart that she could do anything as long as she believed. She overcame all obstacles put before her in her life and fought this last one to the end.
At Barbara’s request there will be no services held.
