Mom was born in Kalispell on April 26, 1925, and passed away there on Sept. 6, 2014.
She brought with her a fun sense of humor, a natural musical talent and a kind and caring heart.
Prior to Mom’s graduation from Whitefish High School in 1943, she worked various jobs to save towards her dream of becoming a school teacher. She attended the fall quarter at Northern Montana College in Havre and, upon her return to the Flathead, she was asked to complete the school term at Prospect Park School. Mom was granted a teaching certificate which enabled her to continue her education through correspondence courses and summer school while continuing to teach.
Many rural schools were blessed to have Mom as a teacher. She taught at Stryker, Bissell, Spring Creek, Bald Rock, La Salle, Half Moon, Canyon View, West Valley and Helena Flats. Finally, in 1981, Mom graduated from the University of Montana with her dream fulfilled. She then taught at the Whitefish Christian School and Whitefish Head Start. Her career spanned more than 40 years.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Edna Fisher; sisters, Dolly Sproul and Elaine Luke; her husband, Larry C. Stevens; a son-in-law, and a nephew and niece.
She is survived by her son, Randy, and Sandy Wills, of Spokane; her daughters, Sharis Murn of Kalispell, Virgie and Jerry Martin of Kennewick, Wash., and Susan Wills and Darrel Stevens of Whitefish. She also is survived by her brother, Virgil Fisher; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; along with a number of nieces and nephews.
Mom made a difference in the lives of many by her joy in teaching either in the classroom of a school or sharing about Jesus on Sundays.
Mom requested no services be held. Her ashes will rest in the family plot at Spring Creek Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the kind staff of Hope Options Hospice, as well as those at Brendan House, especially Michelle, Terri, Darci, April and Stacie.
Contributions in Mom’s name are suggested to Home Options Hospice.
