Calvin Newell

Calvin Newell, 85, a devoted husband and respected CPA passed away on Jan. 28, 2025, in Kalispell.

Calvin and his twin sister, Carren were born on July 25, 1939, to Elmer and Alice Newell in Baker, Montana. He attended school in Baker, graduating in 1957 and keeping close contact with many of his classmates for years. During the summers he worked for his uncle on the farm and enjoyed playing baseball on the town team. He was an all-around athlete, participating in football, basketball and track.

He attended Montana State University for two years and was then drafted into the Army in 1962. After basic training, he came back to Baker to marry Lynda Sieler on Aug. 24, 1962.

After two years of active military duty, the couple returned to Baker where Calvin worked for Schell Oil. In 1964, Calvin returned to MSU to graduate in accounting and become a CPA.

Lynda and Calvin lived in Billings and then moved to Kalispell in 1966, where Calvin became a partner at Jordal & Sliter CPAs. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Crime Stoppers, the Whitefish Credit Union and the Immanuel Lutheran and Northridge Lutheran Churches. He enjoyed boat racing, whitewater rafting, hunting, golfing and snow skiing on Big Mountain.

Calvin retired in 2001. After some traveling, the couple spent their winters at Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where Calvin enjoyed fishing, golfing and wood carving. He created many beautiful carvings that Lynda enjoyed painting.

Calvin and Lynda volunteered in Kalispell for over 10 years for Meals on Wheels and the Food Bank.

After 62 years of adventures and marriage, Calvin left Lynda to be with God in his heavenly home.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alice; brother, Leon; nephew, Kevin Newell and brothers-in-law, Bob Coldwell, Dan Alldredge and Roger Fuchs.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda; twin sister, Carren; brother, Russell (Gerri); sister, Juline Kosmicki (Dick); sisters-in-law, Susan Newell, Carole Calvin (Noel) and Paula Fuchs and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
