Carl Otis Fleming, Jr., named "Booger" by his first grandchild, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
"He fell asleep in death firm in his faith of the reward of 'everlasting life' for those who have 'heard Jesus' word and believed'" (John 5:24, 25).
Born Feb. 24, 1931, in Coleman, Texas, Carl graduated from Texas A&M in 1951.
Following military service in Korea, Carl worked as a roughneck for Otis Engineering of Dallas, Texas, retiring as senior vice-president. Later he moved with his wife and youngest daughter's family to Mount Vernon, Ohio, to become president of Anglo Manufacturing. In 1996, Carl moved his family to Bigfork, and later Kalispell, where he resided until his death.
Carl enjoyed travel, particularly across the country with his family in their motor home. He loved camping, fishing, gardening, snow skiing and teaching his children and many of their friends to water ski.
In 1987 he was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. The past 18 years he served with his wife as a full-time evangelizer. His engineering background and willing disposition contributed to the construction of Kingdom Halls in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Montana.
Carl is survived by his wife Pat, and their two daughters, Teri with her husband Dan, and Rajenia with her husband Paul; and Carl's sister, Mary Glen. Carl and Pat have five grandchildren, Laramie, Cheyenne, Brook, Heath and his wife Emilie, and Kyle; along with many nieces and nephews in Ohio, Indiana and New Mexico.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today, July 20, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1414 Woodland Park Ave., Kalispell.
