Carolyn Ruth Bloom, 92, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at her home in Kalispell. She was born on April 23, 1921, in Spokane to Louis I. and Ruth E. Davis Brislawn.
Carolyn was raised in Seattle where she attended schools, graduating from Roosevelt High School. After high school, she attended Washington State University, then known as Washington State College.
In 1942, Carolyn married Americo James "Jim" Bloom. They had been married for 61 years when Jim passed away. She raised four children and taught English at Korean University. Carolyn's career as housewife and mother took her from Spokane, to Japan, Okinawa, Guam, South Korea, Thailand, Spain and Tahiti, retiring to Lakeside in 1981.
She was very involved in the community theaters around the world, the Catholic Church, working as a substitute teacher, and helping with numerous fundraising events. Her passion in life was her love of theater and music, golf, crocheting, playing bridge and sailing.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Americo James "Jim" Bloom Jr.; her parents, Louis I. Brislawn and Ruth E. Davis Roeschley; and her beloved aunties, Margaret and Molly.
She is survived by her sons, Gary J. and wife Diane Bloom of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Gregory L. and wife Karen Kershaw Bloom of Bigfork, and Michael P. Bloom of Spokane; and daughter, Jamie C., and husband, Roy Rivers, of Mill Valley, Calif.; a sister, Phyllis Conner; grandchildren, Bob, Deborah and Chase; one great-grandchild, Dillon; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Roderick Ermatinger serving as celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside interment at St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
