Cecil Everett Buttel was born on Sunday, June 12, 1917, to Fredrick and Rosa Buttel of Sherman, Okla. He had four sisters and eight brothers.
"Cecil was the last of them all to enter into heaven."
He moved to Paso Robles, Calif., in the late 1930s where he met and married his wife, Wini, on July 5, 1941. He volunteered for service in the Army in 1940 and fought the Japanese in Alaska and the Pacific. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart, plus a Bronze Star for bravery.
Living in Northern California, Cecil and Wini had two children. Wini died suddenly in 1999. In 2010, his children finally convinced him to join them and their families in Bigfork. He bought a home there and lived in it "until he entered into heaven's gates" on July 7, 2012, just a few weeks past his 95th birthday.
He is survived by his two children and their spouses, Steve and Sandi Buttel, and Nina and Rick Hoskinson, all of Bigfork; plus four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Bigfork.
