Craig Strandberg

July 23, 1956 — March 8, 2018

Craig Strandberg, resident of Lakeside, MT, died on March 8, 2018 at the age of 61 after a long fight with cancer.

Craig is survived by his beloved wife, Sue; daughters, Tara and Chris (Carmichael), Mariah (Connolly) and Joe (Zumwalt), and son, Ian (Chrisman) and MJ (Santamas); cherished grandchildren Violet, Charlotte, Declan, Oliver, and Keir, loving mother, Darlene, mother- in law Sarah Sally (Bowman), aunts, Norma (Long), Yvonne (Bishop), and Geraldine (Johnson); brothers Bruce, Tony, and Michael, and his sister, Dee (Bradford). He is predeceased by his brothers, Dave, Mark, and Kevin; and father Vern. Known to his family and friends as a man with endless capacity for love, he leaves behind many nieces, nephews, a large extended family, and friends too great to number.

Craig was born in Williston, ND, on July 23, 1956 to Vern and Darlene Strandberg. Serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam War as a sonar operator on submarines, he went on to have a distinguished career at the Department of Defense.  On May 19, 1999, he married his best friend, Sue, took in her family as his own, and soon found his calling as the world’s best Grandpa and Pop-Pop.  Craig retired in 2016, with a distinguished medal of service, to devote his time completely to his family.

Craig was an avid skier, who enjoyed hiking and backpacking in the Bob Marshall wilderness, traveled the globe, and loved fishing and hunting.  A problem-solver who often took on projects at work and around the house, he always helped others. A winning smile and open personality made others feel loved and accepted, and he was friend to all he met.  He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

No funeral will be held, but a memorial is pending.  In lieu of flowers please send donations to the charity of your choice, and strike up a conversation with a stranger, if possible, on a chair lift.
