Delbert Ivey

September 8, 1936 — October 1, 2020

Delbert Ivey, of Bigfork, passed away Oct. 1, 2020, at the age of 84 due to complications of Crohn's disease.

The son of his beloved parents Charles and Cornelia, Ivey was born on Sept. 8, 1936, in Havre and was raised in Chinook.

He is survived by his brother Dave Ivey and his wife Betty Jo of Bigfork, and his sister Laurel Ivey Thompson of Somers. He is also survived by nephews Steve Ivey and his wife Carrie of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Mike Thompson and his wife Amy of Parker, Colorado; and nieces Dara Vanqeckleberg and her husband Jay of Bigfork, and Kristi Thompson of Somers;. along with several grandnieces and -nephews.

Del was an Army veteran, a graduate of the University of Montana, a personal pilot, and a self-taught computer and electronic whiz. The self-proclaimed “Mayor of Bigfork” was a frequent patron of the Pockestone Cafe and Bigfork Athletic Club where he discussed important world issues with many, whether they liked it or not, while treating himself to a soak and steam. He spent his remaining years hiking the many trails around Bigfork, watching the trains come and go at the Whitefish Depot, and living life on his terms with many friends and family. Del was grateful to the staff and residents at Rising Mountain Assisted Living.

Del's family will hold a memorial service to celebrate his life this coming summer.
