Diane Moussiaux

June 4, 1938 — May 26, 2019

Diane Moore Moussiaux age 80,  died May 26, 2019 at her home at Buffalo Hill Terrace in Kalispell, Montana.

She was born in Kalispell to Dr. Thomas B. Moore and Miriam Moore and attended Flathead County High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Spanish Club and played saxophone in the band.  She graduated from the University of Montana in 1960 with a B.A. degree in Spanish and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

Growing up, Diane enjoyed hiking in Glacier Park with her Girl Scout troop and swimming in Flathead Lake during summers spent at her family’s cabin and cherry orchard on the East Lake Shore.   She was a dancer and competed in the 1951 Horace Heidt Talent Show with her sister Marilyn.

Diane’s first job after college was in Stockton, California where she taught high school Spanish for several years.   After moving to Southern California, she taught in high schools in Tustin and Downey.  She married Joseph Moussiaux, a high school counselor and coach, in 1976.  They resided in Anaheim, CA until 1984 when they both retired.  They moved to Las Vegas where they enjoyed following sports betting and horse racing. Diane was active in her homeowners group in Las Vegas where, as social director, she hosted many parties and events. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1994.  Diane and Joe spent every summer at her Flathead lake property, and Diane continued to make her summer sojourn to Montana until 2016.  She moved to Buffalo Hill Terrace in January 2019.

Diane will be remembered as a fiercely independent person.  She had strongly held, not always popular, opinions that she was never averse to sharing.  But she could couple that trait with a wicked sense of humor and a willingness to enjoy a good practical joke.  In spite of years living in California and Nevada, Diane loved Montana and felt a particular affinity for the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park and was always happy to return “home.”

She is survived by her sisters Marilyn Moore Reynolds Harris of Kalispell and Suzanne Moore Crocker of Palo Alto, CA; two nephews, Tom Reynolds of Livermore, CA and Patrick Crocker of Hillsborough, CA; and two nieces, Laura Reynolds of Kalispell and Kathleen Crocker Storey of Burlingame, CA.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m Saturday June 1, 2019 at the Chapel at Buffalo Hill Terrace in Kalispell.  Memorials may be sent to the Glacier Park Conservancy, P.O.
