Dorothy Flickinger Hewitt, 91, of Kalispell passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday evening, April 16, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.
She was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Pondera County to loving and grateful parents, Fred and Emma D. Flickinger. She attended Pondera County Elementary School as a child. During this time she tasted freedom and flight on the back of her horse that an older brother trained especially for her.
Shortly after World War II while working at the Conrad Creamery she met Thomas L. Hewitt, a handsome ex-airman working at the local Ford garage. Smitten and in love, they were married Aug. 31, 1946.
In the early '60s they moved to Kalispell where Dorothy was employed on the Koenig Potato Farm, and her last job was Snow Line Tree Company making wreaths for many years. They raised three children Rita, Patti and Mike Hewitt. They would also raise some of their grandchildren, Joel, Jessica and Alicia Hewitt. Dorothy enjoyed crafts, painting, ceramics and rock hunting with friends. She loved tending to her kids' and grandkids' every need.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two children, Rita and Patti; three brothers, Ernest, Glen and Vern; and her parents.
She is survived by her son, Mike Hewitt; her grandson, Joel Hewitt and wife Amber; and granddaughters, Jessica Hewitt, Alicia Hewitt, Maria Konken and Carol Hewitt; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Wyatt Hewitt, Abagail and Gabriella Weber, Brooke Beauregard, Ava and Lola Dent, and Taryn and Kiera Horner; and two sons-in-law, Ron Konken and David Kellenberger.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 21 at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Creston Grange following the service.
