Doug Calvert, 59, died peacefully in his sleep of an apparent heart attack at his home in Bigfork on Jan. 8, 2014.
Doug was born Douglas E. Calver on Oct. 4, 1954, in Ogden, Utah. He spent his youth there, moving to Montana when he was in his early thirties. Listening to him talk about Montana, it sounded like he ventured off on a camping trip and just never went home. He loved Montana, the mountains, rivers and lakes. Montana became his home.
Doug was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was a kind person who loved his family, his friends, his animals, good food and good music. He worked as a property manager and caretaker, which was the perfect profession for him. His caring concern, compassion and loyalty made him invaluable. He took great care of everything he touched. His home and the homes of those he worked for, the cars, the grounds, the dogs and horses - all were cared for with his characteristic kindness, and attention to detail and quality. He was always willing to help out a friend or neighbor, going the extra mile with a big smile. We will miss Doug. He was one of God's gentle souls.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Stanger; brother, Brent Calver and his wife, Barbara; niece, Morgan Calver; brother, Steve Mapes; sisters, Cheryl and Jill Stanger; niece, Melissa Papaj her husband, Matt, and their children, Kenyon and Hailey; aunts; an uncle; and many cousins.
Condolences may be sent to his mother, Carol Stanger at 791 E. 200 S., Layton, UT 84041.
Memorial services are pending and will be announced at a later date.
