Ethel Pier

July 17, 1925 — May 31, 2015

Ethel Metcalf Pier passed away May 31, 2015, in Kalispell.

Ethel was born in Colfax, Washington, on July 17, 1925, to Carl and Mae Metcalf of Libby. Ethel lived in the Libby and Thompson Lakes area, attending Libby Public Schools. Her first job outside the family home was at Boisvert’s Resort on MacGregor Lake baking pies for the restaurant.

She met her husband, David Pier, while working as a telephone operator in Ellensburg, Washington. They were married Sept. 5, 1947. Ethel traveled as a Navy wife and mother for 20 years, until returning to Montana just before Dave retired. She either worked from home or held various jobs. She worked and retired from the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls.

Following retirement, she found her favorite career of volunteering at the Klothes Kloset in Columbia Falls. Ethel was an avid seamstress, creating quilts to donate right up to her death.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, David; and her brothers, Cliff, Ace and Howard.

She is survived by her sisters, Shirley Ensley of Colfax, and L. Kay Price of Missoula; her sons, David Pier and Dale Pier of Columbia Falls, and Dennis Pier of Kalispell; and daughter, Debra Pier, of Hot Springs; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces, in-laws and out-laws.

The family has no plans for memorial services at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the United Church Women of the Columbia Falls Klothes Kloset, Canyon Community Church building fund, or the Columbia Falls Food Bank.
