Frances Louise "Fran" Dyer, 90, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at her Kalispell residence.
Fran was born in Eldora, Iowa, to Dr. Albert Wesley and Hannah Greene Adams on Nov. 5, 1922.
Fran taught school in Eldora Township for three years. She moved to California in 1943.
Fran was an active member of Eldora's Methodist Church as a pianist for the Children's Sunday School, and always a summertime participant in Vacation Bible School in her early teens. She was a member and very active in MYF and Women's Society activities.
Fran loved music and had taken several years of voice training and attended the Thalman Conservatory in Iowa Falls, Iowa, in preparation for entry into Julliard School of Music. However, since friends had gone to California she decided she would travel first before choosing a career.
Fran met her husband while he was in the U.S. Army in California, and Bob was due to go to the Pacific and Asiatic Theaters in the near future so they decided to get married before he went overseas. They were married May 2, 1944, in Ventura, Calif., in the Methodist Church.
Bob spent four years in the service in World War II and came home December 1945. Their first home was in Compton, Calif., and they were blessed with a daughter, Kathy Ann (Kam Beaver) Dyer, and sons, Marty Charles Dyer and Monty Robert Dyer.
Fran was employed at Douglas Aircraft, which later became McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft, for 22 years as an executive secretary in the engineering department.
Bob and Fran lived in Long Beach, Calif., for many years and moved to Kalispell in September 1986. Both transferred their membership to Epworth United Methodist Church in 1987 from Bellflower Methodist Church in California. She has been an active member of Epworth, holding chairperson of a circle for several years, UMW secretary for five years, and UMW president for two years. She had played piano for children's programs, Cherub Choir, and UMW for many years.
She always felt blessed with her talent to paint with watercolors which she pursued almost all her life, having many of her paintings in her home and giving many away as gifts.
Bob and Fran were married for 62 years when Bob passed away on June 22, 2006.
Fran had a brother in Wichita, Kan., who passed away in 2005, and a sister in Tulsa, Okla., who passed away in 2002.
Fran will be missed for her loving, sunny disposition and generous ways and dedication to family, friends and church. She supported many charitable organizations during her life.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; son, Marty; one brother, and one sister.
Fran is survived by her children, Kathy Ann and Monty; and sister, Jane Catherine Adams Grenier, of Garwin, Iowa.
There will be no visitation for Fran. Celebration of life services will be held at a later date.
