Gilberta Michaels, 91, "went to be with the Lord" on Dec. 23, 2013, at the Immanuel Lutheran Skilled Care Center, Kalispell, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was the third daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gilbert Lininger of Denver. She was born Dec. 18, 1922. She graduated from South High School and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in dietetics at the University of Colorado, Fort Collins. As a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority, she was proud of her membership and the work they did.
Gilberta married Harry Tracy in 1946 and they raised four children, Linda, Lois, Richard and Larry. She was very community minded and was instrumental in opening a youth center and arranging for the public use of the school's swimming pool.
She went to work for the State of Oregon as a social worker. She very much loved working with and helping people. During this time she started a detox center and worked with the mentally challenged.
Meeting Gilberta, one quickly observed her loving, witty and Christian ways. She was always quick with a kind word and a giving heart. She was well loved by her church family and many friends. Gilberta never passed up a chance to enjoy nature or visit the ocean.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia; father, Gilbert; sisters, Virginia and Barbara; and grandson, Jason Tracy.
She is survived by her sisters, Audrey Hagler of Tonasket, Wash., and Emily Mooers of Redmond, Wash.; her four children, Linda Yeo of Kalispell, Lois Michaels of Bly, Ore., Richard Tracy of Dundee, Ore., and Larry Tracy of Olney; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Easthaven Baptist Church, 2010 Whitefish Stage, Kalispell. A reception at the church will follow the graveside services at C. E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
