Joseph Gregor

September 5, 1918 — February 28, 2014

Joseph "Joe" Gregor, 95, passed away at Brendan House on Feb. 28, 2014.

Joe was born Sept. 5, 1918, in a log cabin in Eureka. He attended grade school and high school in Eureka, graduating in 1937. He spent the next several years working for the Forest Service and Eureka Creamery. He also did some work on airplanes and learned to fly.

In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force into the 336th Flying Training Squadron where pilots received advanced training in the B-25 bombers and other duties. In the Air Force most of the duties were with airplanes to support the war effort. He was discharged in 1946. Joe then attended some aircraft and engine schools, and received his FAA Engine and Aircraft Certificate. He also attended the Cal-Aero Technical Institute in Glendale, Calif. While in school, some people from the Air Force came by. They said he had the experience for what they needed and promised him a job when he got out of school. The Air Force sent him to the Minuteman One Missile School where he earned the title of industrial engineer working on technical missiles. He also was sent to school on methods time measurement, labor standards EO46 and Department of Defense methods and standards. This helped his LSO duties as a team planner. Joe received a certificate of appreciation from the Air Force, "Mr. Gregor maintains a high degree of perfection in accomplishing his duties." Joe had a little over 30 years, so he decided to retire in 1980 from Hill Air Force Base in Odgen, Utah. He enjoyed his retirement, fishing, riding his motorcycle and flying his planes.

He lost his wife Louella in 1985, and married Dorothy Johnson in 1989.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence A. Gregor; mother, Teresa S. Gregor; twin brother, Lawrence J. Gregor; sister, Agnes E. Erickson; and last sister, Mary Frank.

Joe is survived by a daughter, Sharon F. Gregor, and son, Gary F. Gregor of New Mexico; and stepchildren, Marsha Bush of Ohio, Robert J. Johnson of Cadillac, Mich., Esther E. Pantadosi of Durham, N.C., Mary A. Cunningham of Florida, Barbara S. Sheridan of Helena, and Theresa L. Flack of St. Charles, Mo.
