Juanita Mae Bryant passed away quietly Monday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2014. She was surrounded by family and friends "when she went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ."
Juanita was born in Spokane on Aug. 24, 1924. She was raised on the family farm here in Kalispell by her grandmother Rose Strauss. They sold produce, and got their milk and butter from the family cow. Grandma Strauss, being an avid fisherman, would catch fish from the Stillwater River with their cane poles.
Juanita went to elementary school at Edgerton through grade six, and completed the eighth grade.
In 1943, she married Harold "Bud" Hembd and they had five boys, Dick Hembd of Columbia Falls, Dan Hembd of Kalispell, Don Hembd of Palm Springs, Calif., Gary Hembd and wife Michele of Kalispell, and Dennis Hembd and wife Linda of Redlands, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Juanita is also survived by her cousins, Velma Aridson, Jeannie Toaves, Donna Simmons of Columbia Falls, Rose and Virgil Manning, and Pat Basler of Spokane.
After 23 years of marriage, Juanita and Bud were divorced.
Juanita met Virgil Bryant and they married in 1969. They were very active in the Montana Fiddlers' Association and the Eagles. They had a lot of good times attending the Fiddlers' events. She loved dancing, socializing with friends and traveling and, most of all, her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil in 2010.
