Kenneth Ashby

August 3, 1924 — July 25, 2013

Kenneth J. Ashby born on Aug. 3, 1924, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013.

He was born in Potosi, Wis., and moved to Land O' Lakes, Wis., as a boy. He graduated from Eagle River High School in Eagle River, Wis., and attended Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich., for two years and studied forestry. He decided to enlist in the Navy to help the war effort in World War II.

Kenneth married Carolyn Dickman Dec. 29, 1951, and had three children, Kenneth Jr., Tim and Patty. He worked for Rahr Malting Company for 25 years as a hunting guide in Canada. He loved his job very much and enjoyed working in the outdoors. After Rahr's sold the hunting lodge he worked as a log yard manager at a local lumber company until he retired at age 62.

His children had moved to Montana where they had vacationed in earlier years, so in 1989 he and Carolyn moved to Kalispell. Kenneth spent the retirement years hiking, woodworking and enjoying his time with his family. He was an artist and spent time creating drawings and carvings. The family built a cabin in the Thompson River area and he spent many years enjoying Montana. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Rachael and Cole.

To all of us he is the greatest man we ever knew, kind, honest and the best husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, son Tim Ashby, daughter Patricia Ashby-Ray, son-in-law Tom Ray, grandchildren, Rachael and Cole Ashby, and great-grandson Kadyn Ashby, all residing in the Flathead Valley. Kenneth is also survived by his brother Ranger Ashby and sister Carol Vorass, from Wisconsin.

Family graveside services will be held.
