Larry L. Johnson, 65, of Kalispell, died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes at the home of his ex wife who lovingly cared for him during the past month. Larry moved to Montana in the early 1970’s dreaming of mountain living. He built his own home and lived his dream for more than 45 years, living a quiet life completely off grid and on his own terms.
Larry was a fine carpenter, many of his creations are still being used and on display at various stores and homes throughout Flathead Valley. He enjoyed baseball, making pies and spent many hours reading under the pale light of a kerosene lamp. He married DeeDee Roberts, they later divorced, but remained friends. Sundays were for bowling, he especially enjoyed this with his daughter Amanda.
He is survived by his daughters and their husbands Amy (Brian) Yarus of Eureka and Amanda (Chad) Brutscher of Kalispell; grandchildren Abigail, Josephine, Brittney and Blake; sister Laura Peters; brother Tony Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Susan Gates, and partner Billie Jean Horn.
In honor of his quiet and mild spirit, a private memorial will be held at his home and his ashes spread in the place he loved so much.
