Leonora C. Doyle, 88, of Kalispell, MT passed peacefully September 14th from complications of cancer. She had been at the home of her son Mike Howe in the weeks following her diagnosis and was thereafter, until the moment of her passing, surrounded and embraced by the love of family and friends near and far.
Leonora, or Lee as most knew her, was born in Bronx, NY and lived in Highland, NY in the Mid-Hudson Valley where she married Austin Howe Jr. and raised her family. After remarrying in 1976, she moved to Seattle in 1978 with her second husband Bill, where together they started a painting service and store.
They then moved to Kalispell in May 2000, despite a late season snow that surprised them upon their arrival. Lee and Bill embraced Kalispell, and soon became parishioners at St. Matthews's church. They loved being immersed in the lives of their grandchildren, Tyler and Theresa Howe, and becoming "locals".
Lee loved to play Scrabble and enjoyed playing with local ladies as well as frequenting local eateries and casino's and making friends everywhere she went. She was so excited about her recent reconnection with her Catholic faith and was incredibly faithful in her attendance.
Lee spent much of her last few years getting to know so many of the nurses, doctors and receptionists at area medical offices as she nurtured and cared for Bill as he battled health issues. She was his strength and advocate for many years, a loving and devoted wife through his passing in June of 2012. She loved to travel around town in her faithful Toyota and especially enjoyed travelling east last winter and seeing so much of her family while there.
Lee is survived by her four children Robert A Howe and his wife Lynn of Erial, New Jersey, John M Howe of New Paltz, New York, Barbara Lee Howe Amendola and her husband Rick of Mill Spring, North Carolina and Mike Howe and his wife Cindy of Kalispell. She also leaves behind her 3 children from her marriage to Bill, Maryann Matway and her husband John of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, William Doyle and his wife Dawn of Lynnwood, Washington and Robert Doyle and his wife Jaime of New Britain, Connecticut.
A rosary will be read in her honor this Thursday evening at St. Matthews at 6:30 PM and a funeral Mass held also at St. Matthews this Friday morning at 11:00AM, with a luncheon immediately following Mass. All are invited. Her cremated remains will be interred in New York in October. The family asks that any memorials be made to Home Options Hospice and would like to express their extreme gratitude for the care and comfort provided by everyone there. to send condolences to the family please visit www.buffalohillfh.com.
