Margaret Ann (Sereday) Nash, 89, died at her home in Kallispell on April 6, 2013.
She was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Wayne, Mont., between Great Falls and Belt, at her grandparents' home, to John Sereday and Suzie (Mital) Sereday. She was raised in Lehigh, and near Schilztown, a coal mining town. She grew up on a dry land farm. She had three brothers, Henry, Johnnie and Albert. She walked three and a half or four miles to grade school in Lehigh, and attended for two years at Windham High School.
She got her first job at the age of 14, on a turkey farm at Belt for the sheriff and his family, then worked at Star Dairy in Great Falls until she married Alvin E. Nash, May 22, 1940, at the Assembly of God Church in Great Falls, by Pastor Homer Rugwell. Margaret was married to Alvin over 57 years.
She lived in Great Falls six years, then the family moved to Hungry Horse in 1946. She and her husband built the Crooked Tree Motel and swimming pool in Hungry Horse, and operated and managed the business until it sold in 1976. They lived for two years in one of the apartments they purchased in Columbia Falls while building their home in Kalispell at 2575 Mission Village. They raised five children, who all graduated from Columbia Falls High School.
Margaret was friendly and outgoing, had many friends, and loved everyone, especially getting a "hug" with everyone she met! Her favorite hobby was taking pictures and sharing them with those she photographed.
She attended the Assembly of God Churches in Great Falls, Hungry Horse, Columbia Falls and Kalispell Christian Center. She also taught Sunday School in Great Falls and Hungry Horse. She was a member of Hungry Horse Homemakers and Stillwater Homemakers, and was treasurer for AARP for four years. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center for many years and was a member of RSVP.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Hawaii, the Holy Land, a New England tour and Niagara trip, a 14-day mission trip to Oaxaca, Mexico, plus visits to see her children.
Margaret was preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Suzie (Mital) Sereday; stepmother, Mary Kasarda-Sereday; three brothers; and granddaughter, Renae Burtsfield; as well as her husband, Alvin, on Aug. 15, 1997.
She is survived by her children, two sons, Gary Nash and wife Brenda of Blue Springs, Mo., and Rodney Nash and wife Lori of Kalispell; three daughters, Ruth Burtsfield-Daughtery and husband Len of Kennewick, Wash., Donna Morken and husband Phil of Bigfork, and Leona Kost of Livingston; 12 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
