Marlys Olson

September 22, 1926 — September 9, 2014

Marlys Olson, 87, passed away peaceful at Kalispell Regional Medical Center with family by her side on Sept. 9, 2014.

“She is now free from all the physical pain she has endured and is with her loving Savior and other loved ones in heaven.”

Marlys was born to Alfred and Pauline Thompson in Coteau, N.D., on Sept. 22, 1926. She married Oscar Olson in 1948 and moved to the Flathead Valley. In Kalispell, they raised three sons. Their home was always open to family and friends. Marlys was an amazing cook and hostess, making sure everyone was full before they left!

She is survived by sons, Les and Pat Olson of Elizabeth, Colo., and Alan and Miriam Olson of Kalispell; daughter-in-law, Debbie Olson, of Polson; grandchildren, Kirstin and Doug Smith, and Jeff Olson of Elizabeth, Jody and JD Scribner of Cataldo, Idaho, and Sebastian Olson of Polson; great-grandchildren, Jake and Ally Smith, Daniel, Dane and Davis Olson, and Chase and Kinlee Scribner; sister, Luella Maltby; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Curt Thompson; her son, Larry Olson; her grandson, Aaron Olson; and brother-in-law, Bud Maltby.

One of the many life lessons that Oscar and Marlys left as a legacy was to use our God-given abilities to His glory. Oscar did that with his carpentry skills and Marlys with her hospitality. It was their inspiration, along with a few other families, that started Faith Free Lutheran Church in Kalispell.

The family would like to honor them both in an informal memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Faith Lutheran, 405 Liberty Street. Come and join us as we celebrate their lives.

In lieu of flowers or plants, suggested memorials are to the Faith Lutheran building fund.
