Mary H. Smith, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Heritage Place in Kalispell.
Born Mary Eliza Hibbs on Dec. 4,1921, at Albertville, Alabama, to Bulian and Alma Hibbs, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William D. Smith, their son James D. Smith, and her two brothers Edwin B. Hibbs and James G. Hibbs.
She is survived by her two sons, Gerry L. Smith and Gregory G. Smith, of Kalispell; grandchildren, Todd, Crystal, Melissa and Hannah; great-grandchildren Finn, Addie and Boden; along with several nieces and nephews in Texas.
Mary and William were married on Sept. 30,1945, at Citadel Church in Charleston, South Carolina. William had just returned from serving in the Marine Corps for 32 months in the South Pacific. Much of their married life was spent working the Minuteman Missile program. Mary taught school in Texas, South Carolina, Utah, California and Montana. They retired in Plains, built a home and spent 20 wonderful years together with friends and family. Mary moved to Kalispell in 2002 to be with her sons and their families.
As requested by her, there will be no services and interment will be private. Her body is to be cremated and her ashes to be joined with her husband and son in a private plot.
