Michael Sean Callaghan Jr. passed away in Bigfork, Montana, on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.
He was born in Torrington, Connecticut, on May 22, 1966. Mike graduated from Simsbury High School and earned a B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He was married to Emily Gustafson Callaghan in Bigfork on July 1, 2006.
Mike is survived by wife Emily Callaghan, mother Margy Spencer, stepmother Diane Callaghan, brother Jon (Christie) Callaghan, stepbrother Michael (Janeen) M. Callaghan and beloved yellow lab Zoe.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael S. Callaghan, of Ramsey, N.J., and his stepfather Bob Spencer, of Jackson, Wyoming, and also Shadow and Kaya, his faithful companions for many adventures.
Mike was the founder and president of Bigfork Web Development, a digital marketing and website creation company located in Bigfork, and he had just graduated from the prestigious Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program at Babson College. He was especially proud of the company he was creating for his employees at Bigfork Web Development. Mike co-founded and operated Mountain Bike Outfitters in Moose, Wyoming, and he was an active member of the Jackson Hole community for many years.
Mike believed strongly in giving back to the community. He is a past president of the Bigfork Chamber of Commerce and sat on the boards of the Community Foundation for a Better Bigfork, the Bigfork Promotion Group and Montana West Economic Development.
Mike loved mountain biking, paddling, hiking and running the trails of Wyoming and Montana throughout his life. He blessed us all with his incredible creativity, intense curiosity, genuine warmth and good humor.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the BruMar Estates in Bigfork, Montana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s name to the Charlotte Edkins Animal Adoption Center in Kalispell, Montana.
