Myron Boulden

May 1, 1948 — June 24, 2020

Kalispell

Myron V. Boulden, 72 of Kalispell passed into the arms of the Lord on June 24, 2020, at home with his family by his side. He endured a 2 1/2 year battle with vascular disease, COPD, heart failure and cancer. His fight and attitude were amazing through all the ups and downs.

Myron was born May 1, 1948 in Kalispell, to Melvin R. and Ruth E. Boulden. Melvin passed away when Myron was a teenager. Ruth passed away at the age of 86. He was an only child, so was a busy boy helping work the family farm on the west side of Kalispell with his Mom.

He attended Russell Grade School and graduated from Flathead High School in 1966. In high school, he worked at Sykes Market, Danny’s Drive-In and Himsl Wohlwend Motors, then for the Flathead National Forest Service the summer after graduation.

He attended University of Montana for a semester, then Spokane Community College until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in January 1968. The Army stationed him in Baumholder, Germany. While in Germany, he traveled Europe during his days off. His mother went to Germany and together they visited their Norwegian relatives. He also enjoyed skiing the European slopes. Myron was discharged from Active Military Duty in September 1969; and served in the Army Reserves until Honorably Discharged in January 1974.

He barely made it home from Germany for his wedding. He married Marilynn Hegg on Dec. 27, 1969. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage as of December 2019. It was a union of love, friendship and respect up to his last breath and forever.

He worked for Anaconda Aluminum Rod Mill from 1970 to approximately 1983 when operations closed. He owned and operated a repair service out of his garage at home until 1990. Mom was working, so he also got kids ready for school and drove carpool. He and Marilynn purchased Escrow Services in 1990 and operated the office together for 25 years until retiring in 2016.

Myron joined the West Valley Volunteer Fire Department in 1971 and served as a firefighter, fire marshal, captain and chief over the 49 years he served his community. After stepping down as fire chief in 1997, he served on the department’s board of trustees; resigning in March of 2020. Even after retiring from active duty in the department, he remained a reserve firefighter to help drive or man the station when needed; until February 2019.

His family is going to miss him greatly! We already miss his crooked little smile, the sparkle in his eyes and quiet wit. He was a wealth of knowledge and could fix just about anything. He always helped the kids with their horses, 4-H projects and cars as they got older.

He loved to tinker in his shop; welding and building new creations or fixing what the kids’ horses or livestock had broken. He loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting and watching the wildlife pass through the property. He loved to fly! He obtained his pilot’s license in mid-life. It completed his goal started as a teenager, but couldn’t do because of Army duty, family and work. He gave up his license a few years ago due to his health.

Myron is survived by his wife, Marilynn Boulden; daughters, Jennifer Boulden-Crisp, husband Scott Crisp; Rebecca Ivers, husband Daniel, grandson Daniel (Danner), step-grandsons Kaleb and Jeremiah; son, Eric Boulden; aunt, Ellen Fossen; brother-in-law William Hegg, wife, Angeline; nieces, Laura Williams, husband, Tim and family; Kelly Hegg Crosby, husband, Aaron; and Gina Hegg; sister-in-law Betty Stiles, nephews, Gregory Stiles and Mike Nelson; along with multiple cousins.
