Phyllis (Smith) Hartley passed away quietly at age 87 in Whitefish, Montana, on May 3rd, 2015. Born in Tipton, IN, Phyllis spent her life in service to others as a career nurse. She retired from St. Francis Medical Center in Beech Grove, IN, as Assistant Director of Nursing. She was an avid gardener, an excellent baker, a talented seamstress and a loving mother. She was predeceased by her ex-husband of 22 years, Gregg Hartley; by her close personal friend, Carlene May; and by her brother, John D. Smith IV. Phyllis is survived by her sister, Karlann (Smith) Coughlin; by her children, Charles Hartley, David Hartley, Debra (Hartley) Kuzmik; and by her many loving grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Tipton.
