Richard "Rick" Groves "went to the Heavenly Father" on May 5, 2013, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born on Feb. 10, 1957, in Polson to Donald and Alice Groves. Rick was raised on the family farm north of Polson and attended Polson schools.
He married Debra Crevar of Charlo, in 1977. They were blessed with a son and a daughter.
Rick had his own grain truck and hauled for many of the area farmers, as well as the family farm. After Debra's death in 1982, he married Lynn Hellyer of Bigfork and went from hauling grain to hauling logs. He later worked with his brother drilling wells for Western Water Works.
After undergoing back surgeries, they moved to Utah, then back to Bigfork. They divorced and he married Diane Masciullo of Kalispell, in 2010.
Rick was hard-working and dependable on whatever job or project he took on. He was willing to help anyone who needed it when he could, and he will be greatly missed.
Rick was preceded in death by his wife, Debra; maternal and paternal grandparents; several aunts and uncles; as well as other members of the family.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, of Kalispell; son, Joshua, and Lindsey; daughter, Jessica, and Nate Hansen; stepchildren, Loretta, Dan, Todd, Chris and Shelby; grandchildren, Josiah, Vivienne, Danielle, Aidan and Cadence; parents, Donald and Alice Groves; brother, Forrest "Frosty," and Colleen; sister, Dianne, and Robert Lynn; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A private burial was held for the family on May 9 at Bigfork Community Cemetery, with Bishop Marshall of the Bigfork Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dedicating the grave, and Bishop Chery of the Kalispell Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Family members and friends also shared memories of Rick.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the Kalispell Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Whitefish Stage Road.
Buffalo Hill Funeral Home and Crematory is caring for the family.
