Robert John "Bob" Trottier, 66, passed away June 24, 2013, in Kalispell.
He was born April 20, 1947, in Val Marie, Saskatchewan. He was raised and attended school in Val Marie, then lived the rest of his life in Columbia Falls.
Robert served in the United States Army in 1967 and 1968, and received an honorable discharge. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment (Wolfhounds), 25th Infantry Division. While assigned to the Wolfhound Battalion, Robert deployed to Southeast Asia in support of the Vietnam conflict at Cu Chi.
His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal, as well as the Expert Rifle Marksmanship Badge (M16).
He came from a huge rodeo and ranching family in Val Marie. He was a champion saddle bronc rider.
Robert was the Trottier family historian and a proud grandfather.
In his spare time he fished, gardened, walked dogs and spent time on Facebook reconnecting family members.
Robert had a deep love for his family and friends, but mostly for his children.
Robert will be missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd John Trottier, and mother, Christina Irene (Weeds) Trottier.
Robert is survived by his children, Dale Sebastian, Michael Sebastian, Christina Trottier, Cody Trottier, Sarah Trottier and Jaqueline Trottier; grandchildren, Reagan and Arianny Flamand, Charnelle, DJ, Nathan, Bryce and Addy and Maddie Sebastian and Azalea Stands Over Bull; brothers, Richard Trottier and Patrick Trottier; nephews, Kenny, Kyle and Tanner Trottier; niece, Annie Trottier; and special friends, Sue Jean, Erik and children.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, July 2, at the Whitefish Community Center.
