Rosamond Margaret Hollopeter, 97, the longtime sweetheart of Swan Lake, passed away on Dec. 17, 2015, at Brendan House, her daughter and son holding her hands, with loving grandchildren standing by her side.
Rose was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Hasting, Nebraska, to Jessa W. and Margaret (Hill) Lynch. She was the second of nine children, born to a close, loving Irish family. She came to the Flathead Valley in 1931. Her mother and eight children traveled in their Model T Ford from Upton, Wyoming, to their father, who was waiting for them in Trego. The trip that took five days was made in the rainy and muddy days of March. Construction of the road on the west side along Flathead Lake was going on, not an easy trip in those times.
On Oct. 27, 1934, she was married to Hilbert Ingram in Trego, Montana, later living in Swan Lake and raising her family there. The ultimate mother, a very hard working person, she was never without that sweet smile, we all loved.
She was the postmistress at Swan Lake Post Office for many years. She became the much-loved lady of the “Swan.” After Hilbert’s passing, she later married Roxy Hollopeter; they lived in Polson where they had many enjoyable years.
Thro-ughout her life, Rose had lived in Arizona and Polson, but Swan Lake was the place she loved and called home. Her hospitality was legendary, she always had a smile to welcome you, no matter where she was living. Her door was always open and welcome to one and all.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Warren, Dan, Jess, and Neal; sisters, Orrine, Maude and Donna, and granddaughter Holly Brown; her husbands, Hilbert and Roxy, and infant daughter, Penny Ingram.
Rose is survived by daughter Margaret and James Love and son Denny Ingram, stepson Larry Hollopeter and step daughter Dee Berglund; seven grandchildren, Paulette, Monte, Tony, Loreli, Tanya, Twila and Brian; many, many great- and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Geri Mitton; sisters-in-law Bess and Opal Lynch and Doris and Esther Ingram. We are going to miss you, “Little Sweetheart!”
Rose will be interred with her husband Hilbert.
