Ruth Broeder, 87, who believed that "love is caring for other people" died Saturday, July 7, 2012, at Brendan House.
She was born Aug. 28, 1924, in Malta, the second daughter of Lloyd and Bertha Crail. By age 5, she had moved to Kalispell where she spent her life, except for a few short years in Columbia Falls. He parents both died young, and Ruth was the anchor for her birth family all of her life.
She married Fred Broeder Jr. Feb. 11, 1952, and became the mother of his three young daughters, who were joined by a sister and brother to complete their busy, noisy family home in Creston.
She was an active member of any community in which she lived. Ruth enjoyed a joyful, rich life with Fred, their children, all their relations and many friends. A lover of bright colors and beautiful things, Ruth said she wanted her obituary to say, "She was festive!"
Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred; her parents; and brother, Timothy Crail.
She is survived by her five children, Joyce Admire of Lake Oswego, Ore., Judith and Elwin Allen, Linda and Gary Paulson, Deborah and Art Holguin, all of the Kalispell area, and Fred and Fran Broeder of Midlothian, Va.; her sister, Peggy Byrne, and brother, Ted Crail, of Kalispell; brother, Donn Crail, and wife, Helen, of Claremont, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Fern Metcalf and Hazel Broeder of Kalispell; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and her loving companion, Linda Willson.
