Tony Gamma

September 1, 1983 — March 16, 2020

Kalispell

Tony Gamma, age 36, rancher of Ashley Lake, MT, passed away at his home Sunday morning, March 15th. Tony attended school at Marion Elementary and Flathead High School. He was awarded New Century Farmer through FFA.  He started ranching, buying his first 50 cows while in high school. Talented in many things, he was a huge asset, working on the ranch at a very young age with his dad. He taught each of his sisters how to operate the tractors for haying and feeding cows. He patiently taught them how to listen for the breakdowns, what it meant if the whine of the swather changed, and how to fix anything. He would tell us to get back on the snowmobile we buried so we could feel how to run the throttle and get out ourselves. He was so strong and so fast.  He could outrun the cows that were getting away, passing us while asking what was taking us so long! He could knock the breath out of us with his big hugs. No one gave a hug like Tony! He was a master equipment operator for Doug McRae Holdings, fertilizing fields for farmers around the Flathead.

In 2005 he started work at Tough Go Logging with James Stupack. He logged and fought many forest fires for the State of Montana. In 2019 He started working for Hecla Greens Creek Mine, Admiralty Island, Alaska. Everyone on his crew was glad to get to work with him. No matter the piece of equipment he touched, he was a master. In many of his bosses' words, he made equipment dance. He is preceded in death by grandparents Frank and Hazel Gamma, Erwin Hagbom, Carl and Lulu Voth, and Uncle Joe Gamma. He is survived by his parents, Doug and Mary Gamma of Ashley Lake, MT, sister Carmyn (Dustin) Frasch and nieces Zaiya, Anya, Kyra of Ashley Lake, MT, sister Jewel Gamma of Laramie, WY, and sister Lynae (Taylor) Grant, and new nephew Denver of Rupert, ID. He was deeply loved by everyone: aunts, uncles, cousins, and many many friends throughout the entire world.

We would love to have everyone together to share in our grief but due to the coronavirus restrictions there will be a small family gathering on Saturday March 21st at 2pm. There will be a live audio link to the service posted here soon. In lieu of flowers , we ask for donations to help with expenses.
