William Doyle

November 9, 1932 — June 11, 2012

William R. (Bill) Doyle, 79, of Kalispell, Montana passed away on Monday June 11, 2012 at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Bill was born on November 9th, 1932 in Bristol Connecticut. One of 5 siblings, he spent most of his early life in and around New Britain Connecticut. He entered Military Service in 1950 serving in the US Army with the 504th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division and spent three years jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

While serving his country in peacetime, he took place in numerous readiness exercises and most notably, participated in Operation "Tumbler-Snapper" in the Nevada desert at Yucca Flats in April of 1952, observing an airborne nuclear detonation then participating in numerous post detonation tests and exercises. No doubt, this exposure played a large part in many of his physical ailments in his later years, yet he never begrudged the Army and was extremely proud of his children's and grandchildren's subsequent military service.

Bill was a painter by trade and a master paper hanger by choice. His wallpaper skills and his artistry with a brush and roller on canvasses of plaster, drywall and siding have been admired and appreciated by the hundreds of loyal customers he served over the years, first as a union painter in Connecticut, then as owner of his own painting business in Seattle.

After retiring in Montana in 2001, he enjoyed spending time with his local grandchildren Tyler and Theresa Howe, fishing with step son Mike Howe and spending time in his garden. Stamp and coin collecting were two of his favorite activities and he would talk for hours about a special find or purchase (and often railing about others perceptions of the value of a certain item!)

Failing health began to slow him down, but annual visits from his children and grandchildren, spending time on Flathead Lake with them each summer, was something he always enjoyed and seemed to gain strength for and from. He spent three days a week at the Kalispell Dialysis Center from 2004 through his death and regarded everyone there among his closest friends and family.

Survivors include his loving and caring wife of almost 37 years, Leonora (Lee) Doyle, Daughter Mary Ann Matway and husband John of Rocky Hill Connecticut, Son William Doyle, Jr. and wife Dawn of Lynnwood, WA, Son Robert Doyle and wife Jamey of New Britain, CT, Son Robert Howe and wife Lynne of Sicklerville, NJ, Son John Howe of New Paltz, NY, Daughter Barbara Amendola and husband Rick of Mill Spring, NC, Son Mike Howe and wife Cindy of Kalispell, MT and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

By his request, there will be no viewing or memorial services and his cremated remains are to be spread in several favored places of his choosing. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity or bets placed in his honor at the table of your choice! "Take it easy, Kid"...
