William "Bill" Frishkorn, perhaps one of the best-looking men that ever lived, passed from this life on Nov. 13, 2013. His family doesn't think of him as dying but that "he just changed his address, where he is celebrating his new life, in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."
Bill was born on Feb. 3, 1946, in National City, Calif., to Elmer and Marjory Frishkorn. He lived on his father's ranch near Jamul, Calif., where he spent many happy hours playing Tarzan, riding horses with his neighbors and climbing the mountains in that area. After his graduation from Spring Valley High School in 1963, he moved to Rosemont, Minn., where he lived with an aunt and uncle on their dairy farm.
In October of 1964, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force and received his training at Sheppard Air Force base in Texas before being assigned to Hickham Air Field in Oahu, Hawaii. He spent his entire military career in Hawaii where he had a top security crypto clearance, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.
Honorably discharged in October of 1968, he then moved to Columbia Falls where, on Nov. 30, 1968, he and Darleen Winegar were married. At age 26, with no prior carpentry knowledge, Bill built the house where he and Darleen lived and raised their three children, Rebecca, Rachel and Aaron.
Bill enjoyed playing golf, he loved studying history and the Bible, watching movies, music, movie soundtracks and taking his family to Disneyland, as well as on several other family vacations. He entertained his children and grandchildren by singing "Home on the Range" and "Old MacDonald had a Farm," as Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck, with the "great arm of defense" game he made up, and giving them "horseback" rides. He coached Little League baseball teams; and was picked out of the audience to appear on stage at Knott's Berry Farm and at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.
He is survived by his wife, Darleen; daughters, Rebecca and her husband Dan, and Rachel and her husband Raj; and son, Aaron, and his wife, Kathy. He is also survived by five grandchildren; a brother; a sister; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
Bill was lovingly cared for at the Montana State Veterans home in Columbia Falls since March of 2011.
"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." -Matthew 11:28, King James Version.
"We will miss you, dad, we love you, sleep well, you have earned it."
